If you're reading this, it's probably Saturday as i've been out to dinner tonight and got in late. Had a lovely evening and even let the diet slip a little!
I forgot to start a new page yesterday so i'll sort things out in the morning, and try to make Saturday's post a little more interesting than this one. (THAT shouldn't be hard huh?!)

We brought MINNIE home today!
pic : animated dog For anyone who hasn't been following, she's our new labrador puppy: six weeks old, black, and sooooo cute. We finally came up with a name that suited her and which we all agreed on last night, thanks to Daisy. She's been really calm and seems to like her new home. The cats, 'Mathilda' & 'Fat Maud' are curious but keeping out of the way for the foreseeable future, which is a shame as Minnie wants some new friends, having left her mother and six siblings behind.

Why don't dogs use computers?
'Sit' and 'stay' are hard enough; 'delete' and 'save' completely out of the question!

Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

William Butler Yeats
"He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven"

HUGE apologies for not having a lot here again today - it was the first day of half-term holiday so i was busy with the kids, then tonight i finished a new linkware set which was inspired by the great Spanish artist, Pablo Picasso. You can see 'Pablo-esque' here and download it for your own personal use, in return for a link back to Groovy Lizard.

See ya tomorrow!

Daisy made pancakes tonight as it's PANCAKE DAY!
(Just lemon and sugar for me please, tho' the photo below looks pretty tempting with butter and syrup - maybe next year?)
It's another of our customs many of us take for granted, often without thinking about the true meaning or reason behind it.
pic : pancakes - yum! Shrove Tuesday is the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent which is a time of abstinence. Strict Christian's weren't allowed to eat any dairy products during Lent, so people made pancakes to use up their supplies of eggs, milk and butter etc., hence 'Pancake Day.'
Shrove Tuesday gets its name from the ancient Christian ritual of 'shriving,' when a person confessed their sins and received absolution.

The French name Mardi Gras (fat Tuesday) also comes from this time.

! GUNG HEY FAT CHOY : HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR !
The Chinese New Year begins today too : 2002 The Year of the Horse.
I stupidly posted about this last week a week early, so apologies if i confused [or upset] anyone.

Just crept downstairs and left everyone's Valentines on the breakfast table. I love seeing their faces in the morning when they open them!

Not a very memorable day - cold and drizzly weather, and a mountain of 'put off from last week/month/year' jobs to do. I am the world's worst at putting off stuff.
Daisy's fun friend Hannah stayed here last night which was nice, and she's now gone home to natter her parents to get a puppy. (Won't we be popular!)

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY
Hope you spend it with someone you love!

Did you know...
St Valentine was a priest in Rome during the reign of Claudius II (268-270 ad)
Christianity was a new religion which many considered a threat, and Valentine helped those Christians being persecuted for their faith. When he was discovered by the authorities he was imprisoned, beaten and beheaded, supposedly on the 14th february which became his saint's day.
The time of year coincided with when birds mated, thus giving the association of love.

btw: the pictures i've used to border this post are 4 valentine heart paintings i just bought from chank and which just arrived today - great timing huh? I love his art soooo much and he's a really nice guy too.
