:: friday 01 february 2002
Phew! February, 'the month of luuurv' is upon us.
January just flew by - i don't know where time goes these
days, and this journal seems to be another reminder of how
quickly it does.
You realize time passes quickly when...
it's 'blank page day' in your blog journal, again...
the kids need new shoes/trainers as their feet have grown,
again...
your insurance/domain name/xxxx needs renewing, again...
the electricity/gas/telephone/credit card bill needs paying,
again...
a note reminds you that it's parents evening on friday, again...
the calendar shows your biannual dental check next week, again...
you look in the mirror and a badger looks back - it's time
to get your 'roots' done, again...
it's just 3 weeks to christmas, and there are still strands
of last year's party poppers hanging from the lights
- time to indulge, again...
"Sed fugit interea, fugit inreparabile
tempus."
Virgil
(Meanwhile, time is flying - flying never to return.)

Hehe - it's 02.02.02 !!
A date like that only occurs 12 times every century (does
that sound right? i've just worked it out but my brain sometimes
lies to me - no doubt it'll be in one of today's papers.)
btw: in a leap year, how many months of the year have
28 days? (answer at the bottom of the page.)

US reader's will know that today is special
for another reason.
Yup, it's GROUNDHOG DAY!
(whaaaat??) |
I guess that all us Brits know about it is from the brilliant
movie starring Bill Murray as an unpleasant and arrogant tv
weatherman caught in a time trap in which february 2nd keeps
repeating itself. He gradually realizes that a change of heart
is called for, and so breaks the cycle.
So, what actually is groundhog day?
Well, based on an old scottish verse and used as a weather forecasting
sign, it's the day that Punxsutawney Phil (a groundhog from
Pennsylvania) emerges from hibernating in his hole in the ground
to look for his shadow. If he sees it, he believes that there
will be six more weeks of bad weather and goes back underground.
If the day is cloudy and therefore casts no shadow, he thinks
spring has arrived and stays above ground.

Arty passed his exam with flying colours so will be
going into the big school in september.
We just need to get him a part-time job now so that
he can start saving for his new uniform.
He's only little, so maybe sweeping chimneys?

Been busy updating/creating stuff today so not a lot of time
for blogging tonight. Made a little animated bear for Daisy
who's been poorly for a few days, and if you'd like
to add Groovy Daisy Bear to your
web page, a link back here would be nice!

My pc desperately needs resetting to totally clear all the
junk accumulated over the past 12 months. Not trusting cd
rewriters to back everything up (an opinion formed after several
instances of being unable to retrieve stored data,) i'm in
a quandary as to whether i dare start the irretrievable process
and hit the 'format' button.
It takes over 60 cdrw discs (650mb ea.) to store 2 copies
of all my stuff, image files being horribly large. An expensive
& time-consuming process, and one which i anticipate with
the same dread as a visit to the dentist (that's tomorrow,)
every six months or so.
Maybe i'd better make three copies just to be on the safe
side...
(Also updated yesterday's post with a page about the the
Chinese zodiac: your sign, characteristics, and famous faces
who share it.)

A lovely trip to the dentist planned for this afternoon.
Well it's just the hygienist actually, but I still hate
going.
Same with the hairdressers (next week) - necessary, but
such a waste of time and I can always think of a dozen
things i'd rather be doing/should be doing instead of
making small talk or lying there with a mouth full of
hands! |
