The kids are excited today: we're getting a new dog.
I'm not so excited: i like un-chewed stuff around the house.
The cats are terrified: they've met dogs before.
In a couple of weeks, a black labrador puppy will be joining
our already overcrowded family and while awaiting the (happy)
day, names for the new member are being suggested according
to whim and mood:
Spot: by Xan "because it's a dog's name"
(duh!)
Rinoa: by George the 'Final Fantasy' fan (fair)
Willow: by George the 'Buffy' fan (i prefer Spike)
Galadriel: by George the 'LOTR' fan (might feel a prat
calling for her)
Basil : by Arthur 'because it's a good name' (he spelt
it Bazzal!)
Pearl : by Arthur 'because it's a good name' (quite
like that one Arty)
Muffy : by Arthur 'because it's a good name' (perhaps
not!)
Mango : by Arthur 'because it's a good name' (ok)
Daisy and Tom still have to contribute. (get with the programme
kids!)
My choice? Bitch, but it won't happen. ("come
here bitch" ?)

SOMEBODY broke my mug.
I found it in the bin under a load of gunk.
Nobody admitted to the crime and i guessed by their terrified
expressions that they thought i was going to tie them
to a chair, shine a lamp in their faces and interrogate
them one by one.
It was only a mug i hear you say, so why the drama?
It was my favourite mug. My 'smarties' mug. The mug i'd
used every day for over ten years. Coffee (my staple diet)
never tastes as good from other vessel. When i get over
the sadness & shock, the hunt must begin for the new
'perfect mug.' |
R.I.P.
|
Seriously though, (you thought i was serious?) how come
it's always your fave things that gets broken, your nicest outfit
which gets snagged, and your most useful tool which disappears
mysteriously, never to be seen again?
We all have loads of stuff that we wish would break or
get lost: that horrid pink sweater you bought in the sale &
didn't really like but it was a designer label and half
price so it must be a bargain, or the truly nasty orange
& brown floral vase given to you by someone who still visits
regularly so you can give it to the local charity sale.
I have news. THEY ARE INVINCIBLE. They will never break
or get lost.
That privilege is reserved for things you love. Sods Law.

Even tho' i had such trouble setting up blogger (ok, i'll
repeat the i'm thick bit here) i hate to be defeated
so took myself off to the greymatter
site today as i've hear lots of good things about it.
It all looks pretty straightforward, and i like the idea that
i can edit & upload everything from my own hard drive.
I bought the domain name groovyblog.com a while ago,
intending to use it for these pages and keep them separate
from my business site
so i'll need additional web hosting for the new domain. I
found several companies whose packages include the pre-installed
greymatter software. Very tempting. Stay tuned.

Brrrr! Got up to find that the boiler wasn't working so we
had no heating or hot water. That put everyone in a
good mood for the day!
Finished
a new Valentines
linkware set and it gave me an idea for an exciting new
project which i'll let you know about as soon as i've got
the details sorted out. (Think jewellery!)
Went supermarket shopping this afternoon
(sad on a Sunday i know) and then after packing & unpacking
everything about ten times (trolly, car, house, freeze, fridge
etc.) started preparing dinner:
Roast lamb, roast potatoes, and loads of fresh veg.
It was lovely and restored everyone's good humour slightly.

Just had a glorious hot bath with dozens of scented candles
dotted round the room. Heaven! (btw - we managed to get a
wonderful little plumber man out to mend the boiler 'temporarily'
so fingers crossed that it comes on in the morning.)

Had some lovely comments & mail today about the blog (thanks
Shelagh
: Rose
and Lucie!)
and btw, in answer to a couple of questions, I have
got over the disappointment of not marrying one of the Bay
City Rollers. Really. It took a while but i'm doing good!
Now on to today's exciting (if you're a termite who's been
kept in a matchbox for eight weeks) news.
Started the dreaded "D" today. "Have a Slim-Fast
shake for breakfast and lunch, followed by a sensible low-fat
meal in the evening"
 |
The shakes & soup are actually pretty
tasty but i'd like a meal with them as well. I've only
being doing this for a day and already i'm tired, bored
& hungry. Goodness know what i'll be like by the end
of the week - come near me & i'll bite your head off
(probably eat it too!) |

As I sat down to write this tonight, WHAM! my mind went blank
and I couldn't think of anything remotely interesting to say.
Pretty unusual that, as my mind & mouth race along at
roughly the same speed: overdrive. I put it down to a long,
busy day which still hadn't finished at 8 this evening because
we were doing Arthur's homework.
He had to put several of the Kings & Queens of England
in the correct chronological order, and that's where i came
in. When I was small my mother taught me a rhyme to help me
remember them which I think she learned it at school. I was
very impressed with this and wrote it out over & over
to learn it. It's been surprising useful over the years:
Kings & Queens of England
Willy, Willy, Harry, Ste, Harry, Dick, John, Harry 3,
1 2 3 Neds, Richard 2, Henrys 4 5 6 then who?
Edwards 4/5, Dick the bad, Harrys twain & Ned the lad,
Mary, Bessie, James the vain, Charlie, Charlie, James again.
William & Mary, Anna Gloria, Four Georges, William &
Victoria.
Edward 7th next & then, George the 5th in 1910.
Edward 8 who didn't last, to Georgie 6 the title passed.
His rule was good and on his death, we got our second Lizabeth.
(See the 'sensible' version with dates HERE)
You wouldn't believe the mass of the other trivia which gunks
up my brain, but that'll have to wait for another 'blank mind'
day. (Wow!)
